Being a Honoka'a girl myself I find a longing for home after living here for almost 12 years.Ý Mahalo for the website, didn't know it was here, glad that I do now.Ý Until I get to move back home, this will be added to my favorites as a way to keep home just a bit closer to the heart.

Mahalo Nui Loa,
Hi:
Thank you so much for your websight. I really
enjoyed looking at the pictures. My husband and I are
moving to the Hamakua Coastline in the next 5 or so
months. He will be working on a Dairy in O'okala
area. We have been looking for pictures because we
have been told so many different things about the
area. About how bad the rain is, how bad the bugs and
mosquitos are and how expensive it is etc etc. We so
wanted to see some of what the area looks like. We
are in Oregon now, so we are used to rain. And I was
raised on a dairy farm so I am used to a rural area
and my husband will love that. We hear the fishing is
great and so much to do. Would love to hear from you
with some information on what we can expect. Thank
you so much.

Hi Melvin,
I enjoyed visiting your website on Honokaa. It was great looking back
at many of the familiar places I spent time at during the first 13 years
of my life. I am not sure if you remember me, but my maiden name is
Janice Plahy. I believe we were in the same kindergarten class as well
as other grade school classes at Honokaa Elementary. I moved away in
the 7th grade and have pretty much lost touch with most of our former
classmates. I have in the past written to Jenny Sakamoto (Hasegawa) but
have not heard from her for a couple of years now.
I visited Honokaa with my husband and 2 sons in the Summer of 2000.
That was the first time back in many years. So much has changed and yet
so little. My family was in near disbelief to see how rural a community
I grew up in. They were shocked to see Paauhau which is really where I
lived. After moving to Oahu and graduating from McKinley High School I
attended nursing school at Maui Community College. I married a local
boy who was in the military and after spending many years moving around
the world we have settled (at least for now) in a small mid-western
community called Bettendorf Iowa. We are about 2 1/2 hours West of
Chicago on the Iowa-Illinois border.
It was great "running" into your name on the website while researching
something for my brother. I have never looked at any of the Honokaa
sites before and was so pleasantly surprised when I saw your site.....
Thank you for sharing your photos for it brings such warmth to my heart
when I reminisce about those fun and happy days at Honokaa.....
Aloha,
That reminds me... Someday I need to take some photos down at Paauhau!
Aloha,
I came across you website by accident but now I go back to it on purpose.Ý I got it on my favorite web sites.Ý Being that I was island grown in Kukuihaele and graduated from Honokaa High School, your pictures really bring back some memories.Ý I go back home every two or three years.Ý I wanted to ask for a favor.Ý Honokaa HighÝ SchoolÝclasses ofÝ1955 and 1956 will be having theirÝclass reunion in Las Vegas, from 13-17 JuneÝ2002 at the California Hotel.Ý For more information contact Lionel Onomura "56" or Naomi (Tanaka) Onomura "55" at 310-323-9588.Ý Could you put this information on your website. Sure would help us to contact people we have lost the addresses.Ý Any help you can give would be appreciated.
