mel: Ý wassup?Ý nice site!Ý makes all of us who live away from home miss it more now.... You need to put in more photo's of portugese people (demello's, correia's, etc.) so the world can get the "real" feel of Honoka'a (nah). do you have randall's e-mail address?
see ya. neo
Please tell me where you are from:: Honoka`a Comments: Hello! What a joy it was to find your site...along with the comments from people I remember! Although I am only a short flight away from our home, I miss that place, my friends, my family and my childhood just the same...Thank you so very much for this site...especially for the pics of the golf course (my grandfather is Robert Silva and I was raised in his house) that always bring a smile to my face! God Bless, Jen
Mel, this is a great web site! Thank you for taking the time to
make this site and for sharing it with everyone. The next time you update your pictures can you please include a picture of the rodeo?
Thanks again,
Trina, thanks for your comments. It might be next year before I get to take some photos at the rodeo. In the meantime let me offer you the following link: Paniolo, Hawaiian Cowboy - This site is a work in progress that has some pictures of old cowboys and stuff dealing with ranch life. Someday, I may put up something similar.
I'm a former police officer from Honoka'a. I lived there from
1968 to 1988. I still have a home in Honoka'a which I'm renting to the Hart's. Honoka'a is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. The people are wonderful and the weather is great. Your web site brings back a lot of fond memories. Keep up the good work!!
Johnny Kai
People who used to live in Honokaa probably remember "Copper" Kai from the 1970s. As I vaguely recall, he used to have a boat tail Buick Riviera that was used as his police cruiser.
Sitting here in my office with Ron Honda. We're working on our e-commerce business and he led me to your site. I think it's so cool!
I'm impressed with your set up, the comments you've written, and your
initiative to create something that can bring a little bit of "HOME"
right into our offices or homes. Take care!

I've lived in Oregon for twenty nine years, but my heart is
still in Hawaii. Aloha to all of you Hawaiians, whether you're in
Hawaii, or like me, have left the Islands for one reason or another. To all of my family and friends, I love and miss you all.
Aloha, Gina

What a great website. My son Keoni Kai turned me on to your website. Esther and I had just returned from Hilo visiting with Keoni, Lori and the children. We also spent sometime with my father-in-law, Teofilo Jimenez, who still lives in New Campt, Paauilo. We were able to see quite a few people in Honoka'a.
By the way, The small business owners have done a lot in fixing up the buildings in Honoka'a. At times I feel a little homesick. Please give my aloha to your family and inform the people of Honoka'a that "Copper Kai" misses them and they are certainly welcome to visit us in Oregon.
Malama pono,
Love your sites Mel! Love seeing photos and reading news from
Honokaa. Not too many site on Honokaa so yours is extra special.

Aloha! When my mother gave me the website address I did not
expect to see my hometown right in front of my eyes. It brought me tears because I have not visited in so many years. It made me remember the old school days of attending Honokaa High & Elementary and the friends that I left behind when I moved. Thank you for the sharing the wonderful website and bringing the memories back. "GREAT JOB!!!"
Mahalo
Thank you Jamie for your kind words. This site seems to bring back a lot of memories. It's a good thing that the internet has the power to bring us a little closer to home.
This is a great site for those homesick Honokaa people up in
the mainland to keep in touch with the island life...thanks and keep it up! :)

Describing Honoka'a to my friends up here has always been difficult... It's hard for them to believe that I grew up in a place that doesn't even have a McDonald's to hangout at after school.
There's so much things about Honoka'a that I hold dear to my heart...family, friends, community, and that feeling of security...something I hope my own family can experience and enjoy whether it's in Honoka'a itself, or in a "Honoka'a" up here in Oregon!! Thanks for putting the site together.
Lissa (Kai) Springer
Let's hope there is never a McDonald's in Honokaa. Tex Drive-In is the hangout place and they got great malasadas.
This was a great website. You must have had it for a while. I was reading the Ohana Page and there were a couple of guys on there that I wondered where they'd gone. Thanks for the great pictures of home. Jimmy was also real glad to see Moses K., at the millennium.
We always spend one vacation a year back home. It's always nice to go home and party. Keep up the great work on the website. I have now added the site to my favorites and will visit it often. Hope to see other's writing.
Mahalo & Aloha,
Wow! I'm really impressed with this website! I attended the
big reunions 11 years ago and then the last one. I graduated from
Honokaa High in '64 and my mom was from the class of 1938. We had great fun participating in the parade. Keep up the good work!
I plan on posting pictures from the 1989 Honokaa School centennial parade online soon.
Aloha Mel, It's so nice to see a fimiliar place.my sister lives right
in Honoka'a town. Mahalo for all the beautiful pictures. I
Miss Hawai'i and come home every year. I tell you something
there's no place like home. Keep up the good work and I'll
be looking you up often.

So wonderful to stumble upon your website!! I sent it to my
cousins, also from Honoka'a, in Vegas & Missouri. My mother's family

Got this web from my friend Ralph Villafuerte.I was born and
raised in Paauilo and grad from Honokaa High School in '73.
Seeing pictures of Honokaa made me homesick. Maybe you can
post some pictures of Paauilo sometimes. If you can, maybe you
can sneek a picture of my parents in here. Ask anybody in
Paauilo for Ben and Peggy Feliciano. Now whenever I feel like going home I can visit your web site.

Great web site! I'll be checking it out from time to time,
latas! By the way, if anyone knows about our class reunion this year let me know: jordan1@eglin.af.mil
Anyone who knows Kerry, please tell him when his reunion is.
Hi Mel, You are the BOMB! The website is getting better eachtime I visit. I bragg to all of my friends about how special Honokaa is to me and the new pictures you've added made them believe how beautiful and distinct Honokaa really is. I'm on my last two months in Korea and will be at Hickam in July. Because of your website, I will be busy getting aquainted with old friends and classmates. Can't wait! I've shared your website address to all the Honokaa natives that I have contact with who no longer lives there. Hopefully your site will be a blessing to them as it was for me. Take care and maybe I'll have a chance to meet you in the near future.
Mahalo!
Raul is a frequent visitor to these pages. Hopefully he can finally come home after he completes his tour in Korea. Much mahalo for serving our country Raul!
Comments: Former resident, 1989-1991. Lived in the apartmrents next to the credit union, on the second floor. One of the best seats in town to watch the parades. Loved the view of snow and ocean.
Comments: born and raised Honokaa homegrown. I grew up playing
everywhere from Pa'auilo to Waimanu and everywhere in-
between. Checking out all those pics and reading everybodys
emails gave me some chicken skin. I miss everything. I miss
my family, my friends, the food, I miss talking pidgin, I
miss the weather. MEMORIES, boy, MEMORIES, i tell you.
great site. Thanks. Oh I'm in Denver Colorado right now,
listening to KA'AU CRATER BOYS on my cd player and its about
15 degrees outside. Talk about culture shock and a wierd mix
right on Mel you made my day :) :) :)

Love your site. I come back often to see if you added anything
new. My father is Bill Valera of Paauilo. Relative surnames are Branco, De Luz, Freitas, Ferreira, Abarcar, Cabral, Valera, get plenty more. But, as good for now. Keep up the good work and I really enjoying seeing the photos of Hamakua District. It brings back good memories.
Malama pono, Renee
It was good to see pictures of home. it's amazing how much you
miss it when your far away. my family still lives there, and i visit
when I can. I grad in 90, so my reunion is coming up and i plan to go
back home. I realize you are older than I am, but I know you would know my cousins; Lala, Pere, and Luisa Epenesa, and my late Uncle Richard Vallente, who drove the school bus for Burgado. well just want to say good job with the page, it was good to show my wife the little town that I call home. you should try to update your ohana page more. Well got to run.
Mahalo and take care
I'll try to update these pages more often.
