Older Americans Month Luncheon

More than 400 Senior Citizens from around the County of Hawaii gathered at the annual Older Americans Month Award Luncheon held at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel on Friday, May 12, 2006. Honokaa's very own Melvin Ah Ching Sr. (the webmaster's dad) was one of the 26 nominees for the Outstanding Older Americans Program Award for 2006.

David Gomes of Kamuela Hawaii was the County's male awardee for 2006. Sumayo "Sue" Nakamura of Hilo as the female awardee.

The three hour long luncheon program recognized all of the awardees. Several senior citizens were also recognized for their accomplishments in community service, senior activities, pesonal achievement, and for their "Golden Years".

Government officials from the county council, the mayor's office and the State Legislature were also present at the luncheon. Music was provided by The Brown Ohana Trio. MC was William "Horace" Farr of the Office of Aging, which was the main sponsor of the program.
