Ookala Village

Located about 13 miles southeast of Honokaa, Ookala was once a thriving and bustling plantation town. It once had its own grocery store, movie theater, elementary school, gymnasium and medical facility. Most of the residents worked at the sugar mill which went out of business in the 1980s. Today it remains a sleepy community just off Highway Route 19 between the towns of Honokaa and Laupahoehoe.
